“Dear Collectors, thank you so much for your continued interest in my work. It’s an honor to be doing a 2-person show with on of my favorite artists and one who’s work has inspired me for over a decade now. Blaine and I also collaborated on 2 paintings and I couldn’t be more happy with how they came out.
It was a lot of fun creating the art for this show. And it was nice to get away from my popular ocean/surf related stuff and focus on some of the animals I’ve been excited about exploring. For some reason, I’ve been gravitating towards animals all found the the PNW… my environment and location inspire me more than I know. I also managed to continue the mushroom series that was started a few years ago and really dig where these little ones ended up.
The floater frames (except on the 9×12 drawings) were all custom made by my friend who owns a high end construction company in Portland. They are made from the Fir floorboards of an old Portland home, complete with stained nail holes and all. The stories they must have. I always go back and forth on whether to frame my art or not, I feel like it should be up to the collector to decide what will look good in the location the art will hang, or even leave it unframed for a more modern feel. But there is no denying how great a painting looks with the right frame, and sometimes the frame just makes a piece. Especially reclaimed wood with a history behind it.
If you have questions about any of these pieces, don’t hesitate to ask. And if you’d like to own one, please reach out to the gallery for availability and purchasing questions.”
Thanks and Cheers, Abel
